Keeping My Head High When All Have Lost Theirs

Hey there, everyone. I hope your day is going well so far. I am writing this piece freshly after reading various news reports that mention the innumerable layoffs happening in the startup sector — both in my home country India and across the globe. It’s always depressing to read about layoffs, and being laid off doesn’t ONLY mean that you are losing your job, but you are forced to let go of a lot of opportunities like health care, provident funds, etc.

All in all, it’s a pretty scary environment, and I was just glancing through another news article that talked about how the IT firms are going to benefit from this venture, there have been greater attrition rates in the IT sector anyway. The article further mentioned that now those opting to work for startups are in a way questioning their choices, stating that they must have opted for a more stable and secure option.

There is this air of negativity all around, and there is perhaps nothing worse than a person losing his job. Amid all of this here I am, trying to gauge the situation with neutrality, my consciousness says that this is just a phase — one that’s temporary and it’ll fade in no time but to make the heart understand is of course easier said than done.

Almost everyone around me has been panicking and expressing their frustrations, sometimes even blaming it on their luck. But I know for sure that all of this is nothing but just a phase. Yes, I am aware that the upcoming days are difficult, and things are going to get tough, but that doesn’t mean we lose our hearts and stop believing in ourselves. There are going to be numerous rejections, but what of it, if we are sure of our own capabilities, we can definitely find a way for ourselves.

Imagine the time when COVID hit for the first time and there was a lockdown announced. People got affected by COVID, lost their families, and lost jobs, the migrant labourers here in India travelled by foot towards their home towns as there were no trains running. But, in the end, we survived it all — even at a time when there were no jobs available in the market when almost no one was hiring, we managed to pull through and maDe ourselves financially stable.

This is a hard time, but you know what? I refuse to bow down and pretend to be a victim in this created scenario which might seem to be very true now, but the tables will definitely turn soon. Until then when I see everyone else around me losing their heads, I continuously strive to put up a brave face and not lose mine.

I swear to God that I am very sympathetic towards anyone from the clan who has faced this kind of a situation and is going through one, I promise to pass on my positivity to them, but before that, I gotta realise that I gotta put my things in place, and at this moment, they are just two things — perseverance and keeping my head high.
