I Am This Unchanging Consciousness

Happy Thursday, folks! I hope this week is treating you well so far. So, for today’s blog I have decided to talk about consciousness. I am aware that I did talk about consciousness and the supreme level of spirituality a lot of times, but today it feels like I read up something that’s absolutely new that I would want to share with everyone.

Of course there was an intense philosophy involved, and things got a little difficult to digest being from a non-philosophical background, but I chose to hold on and not give up. After a few bouncers that went straight above my head I was able to assert this. It said that whatever we experience, whether happiness, sorrow, talking to people, is all a result of actions in our brain. Basically it’s how we perceive things, rather than how they actually appear.

And that got me thinking. I began thinking that the number of times we think of others as a cause for pain or giving us happiness — now I feel that it’s actually us and our reactions to those circumstances that cause pleasure and pain. Also, I read elsewhere that it’s not how situations make or break us, in fact it’s how we react to those situations that are capable of causing changes in us.

Gradually, there was this mention of a lady who was in some sort of distress and she sought some help from a sage and the hermit just asked her to ignore. She almost lost her consciousness and said that how could she possibly ignore all the atrocities that she was facing? The sage roared and said, “Very well, let that continue and let things get even worse.” Later it was explained that the sage wanted to convey that despite all her worries she was still standing there, surviving with vigour. So, there isn’t anything in this world that could break her apart.

Reading this I was mesmerised and gained a hell lotta courage and thought of myself as the most courageous person ever, only to realise that the courage fades with time. Thankfully, the writeup had addressed this concern of mine and said that now that we are aware that we are nothing but pure consciousness, we must learn to live with it. That may sound difficult, but is definitely achievable.

It further gave anecdotes. It said something like we must not be bothered if there are wrinkles on our skin and that it’s a blessing if there is, only because this whole body is a phenomenon in consciousness. Thus we shouldn’t fret if we are skinny, bald or overweight — since consciousness can’t be any of this, and in fact time appears in this consciousness too.

We just have to stick around with this. This unchanging consciousness.
